We are all expressions of the universal field of intelligence that endlessly creates and orchestrates everything in the universe. Each of us is an extension of the same infinite spirit―a single entity with different points of view. Although modern psychology has defined the self as a mysterious fusion of memory, ego and personality, our true Self is infinite, eternal and divine. Emotional Freedom
He who binds
Ask yourself this question, is there an upset in my past that I am holding on to that is influencing my current life? Perhaps an early childhood incident positioned your perspective on the world around you; or maybe a love relationship that—at one point was the answer to all your prayers—broke your heart when it ended through death, divorce, or separation; or maybe there’s something that you’ve done that you have never forgiven yourself for. Throughout our lives we accumulate these moments of sadness, disappointment and regret and as we stew on them and build our lives around them, they bloom and become who we are. In time, they can evolve into such toxic emotions as hopelessness, negativity, anger, guilt and self-loathing. We honor those emotions because they feel real—not because they are right—and over time we unconsciously weave them into our emotional state and eventually into our physiology. Yes ultimately they become part of our body and begin to take on a life of their own. Headaches, depression, turbulent sleep, poor digestion, But we are not helpless. As beings gifted with free will, we can make choices—to forgive, to grow, to let go, to love ourselves again like no one has ever loved us before. Each of us has the power to liberate ourselves from the prison of the past but only if we embrace the present…and make peace with our past. The path to emotional freedom sometimes seems like it is a thousand miles long. But it’s actually only a few long inches and begins with the very first baby step. Each of us can move beyond the pain of the past but we must first give ourselves permission to be emotionally free. This Namasté celebrates emotional freedom and the ability each of us has to step forward into a realm where past disappointments and heartaches are released from our minds and our bodies. This month, Deepak explains the mirror of relationships and provides an exercise to help you begin your flight to freedom, while David shares guidance on learning to love again. To help with this process, Deepak and David have developed a 5-day workshop to help you identify the source of your pain, release it from your heart, forgive all those involved, and fill yourself with love and strength. Appropriately, they’ve named the workshop Emotional Freedom and the world premiere takes place at the Chopra Center December 3-7. We invite you to join us for this emotionally freeing experience. In the spirit of gratitude (we in the United States are about celebrate Thanksgiving) just take a moment to reflect on everything for which you are grateful. Nothing is too small, waking in a warm bed, sunlight patterns on the carpet, energy that is powering your computer, oxygen, the beating of your heart, a hug. Taking a moment for appreciation creates spaciousness, stopping the endless loops of worry or emotional turmoil. The Chopra Center Staff is grateful for our readers’ passion and commitment to enlightenment. Namasté, How We're Stretching
Meditation Q&AQ: I’ve been meditating for some time but often find myself falling asleep. Am I doing something wrong? A: At the Chopra Center we teach that only three things can happen during meditation: 1) You have thoughts; 2) you fall asleep; and 3) you enter the stillness between thoughts that is commonly referred to as “the gap.” You can be reassured that meditation is always healing and that your body takes exactly what it needs from your practice. If you fall asleep, it’s because you were tired and needed to rest. If it happens a lot, you’re probably overtired and need to get more sleep at night. Give your body the rest it needs―it’s a loving gift to yourself! Also keep in mind that meditation itself is wonderfully rejuvenating. Spending 30 minutes meditating is more restful than sleeping for the same amount of time. Living Perfect Health
One powerful practice we recommend is a six-step process that releases the toxicity of unprocessed emotions. You can use this technique when you find yourself in emotional turmoil – as well as when you’re feeling depressed, “flat,” or empty. Words of Wisdom“Do everything with a mind that lets go . . . If you let go a little, you will have a little peace. If you let go a lot, you will have a lot of peace. If you let go completely, you will know complete peace and freedom. Your struggle with the world will have come to an end.”
–Ajahn Chah “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?”
–Kahil Gibran “Love one another and help others to rise to the higher levels, simply by pouring out love. Love is infectious and the greatest healing energy.”

Everything we do, we do for love. It may be a rather circuitous path, but in the end, love is the source and love is the goal. Knowing this, it serves us to be better lovers. We learn to love by observing our parents, who may or may not have been good at it. Whatever their skill level, we cannot hold them too accountable, for they were merely passing on what they learned about love from their parents. It is only when we are willing to consciously ask ourselves, “How can I be more loving?” that we go beyond our conditioning and expand our capacity to love. Featured Workshop
